Overview

Responsible for the supervision and oversight of the mortgage processing department within United Community Bank’s mortgage team. This leader will be responsible for the overall quality and production of mortgage processing activities and will work with the individual processors to ensure internal standards related to quality, client expectations and SLA’s are met. Additionally, this leader will ensure their team’s compliance related to the ordering, obtaining, and compiling of all necessary documentation for files to be underwritten and closed in a timely manner.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain strong understanding of Mortgage Lending products, policies and processes for Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), DPA’s and portfolio products.
  • Sets daily priorities for all processing staff, while maintaining compliance with regulatory guidance.
  • Organize and conduct regular meetings and training.
  • Supervise staff to ensure team production goals are achieved and loans are closed within expected timelines and regulatory parameters. Coordinate activities for staff to ensure team members are fully utilized.
  • Effectively manage all applicable team matters associated with Human Resources, including but not limited to performance evaluations, execution and support of company goals, creed, mission and values.
  • As directed, assist other departments within the Loan Administration Dept. in resolving issues with problem loan accounts in order to protect the Bank from possible loss.  
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining pipeline reviews with Group Leader and other OPS Leaders to ensure we are meeting/exceeding borrower expectations.
  • Create and maintain business processes that promote a culture of excellence for our clients, as well as teammate accountability.
  • Recruit, develop and retain high-performing team members to ensure ongoing success in meeting department goals and necessary succession planning objectives.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Loan Origination System as well as all related systems and identifies and implements changes to worksheets and work flows within the system.
  • Maintain quality control scores for gross and net defects within defined limits. Respond to QC defects and implement corrective actions within the process and coach performance.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients’/business partners and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all fair lending and compliance policies are followed for UCBI and lending partners such as investors, mortgage insurance companies, Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE), Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), DPA’s and portfolio products.
  • Resolve escalations on individual loans on a daily basis.
  • Directly resolve or coordinate the resolution of client service-related problems on behalf of internal and external clients to ensure SLA standards are achieved.
  • Ensure that processes adhere to appropriate risk management policies.
  • Provide ongoing direction, training, coaching and mentoring to team members to mitigate risks within department.
  • Assist in tracking and/or facilitation of process improvements to achieve higher results on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with administering department strategies and budget.
  • Personally handle overflow processing of files
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements For Success

  • High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent education and related training preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of mortgage processing experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years mortgage processing management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with cross-functional responsibilities preferred.
  • Proficient with Agency, FHA, VA, Construction to Perm, Conventional, DPA and Portfolio guidelines.
  • Resolve, escalate, and/or remedy client service issues in a professional manner.
  • Ability to drive desired teammate actions through motivational leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of bank operations, systems, compliance and regulatory issues
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in relating to internal and external clients
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage and monitor the performance of others and provide effective feedback.
  • Ability and willingness to make decisions and be accountable for them.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
  • Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position manages employees and is responsible for the coaching, development, and performance management of those employees.

 

POSITION TYPE

This is a full-time position that requires schedule flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

TRAVEL

This position requires up to 25% travel.
